Waving goodbye to Sentosa's Songs of the Sea {Worldwide Giveaway}

I remember when I was a kid, I loved to visit Sentosa for many reasons and one of them was to watch the Musical Fountain show. There is something about water jets, pyrotechnic displays, laser shows and multimedia effects that deeply attracts me. 25 years after its operation, the Musical Fountain closed down in 2007 and a new multi-million dollar sea spectacular was set up to become Sentosa's signature show - Songs of the Sea.

Since that was the same time when the husband had to go over to Sweden, it ended up that I never watched a show of Songs of the Sea till now - seven years later when the time has come to say "Hello" yet "Goodbye". If anything, I am just extremely glad that we managed to catch one of its finale performances because our whole family enjoyed it tremendously from start to end.

In Songs of the Sea, the stage for the show is the beach - where a stretch of wooden houses is built along the shoreline to create a kampung, or kelong, feel. It might look simple to build but at 120 metres long, it is where the equipment like water jets, projects and and lasers are housed. I watched the Behind the Scenes in the Songs of the Sea DVD and was very much impressed by how Yves Pépin - a talented multimedia show creator from France - designed, conceptualised and materialised the entire show with his team.

From leaping flames, fascinating laser effects, captivating fountain displays to fun sing-alongs and breathtaking fireworks at the end, the show was truly spectacular and entertaining for the entire 25 minutes. Unexpectedly, even the 17-month-old Ariel was swaying to the music and clapping along when the live cast sang catchy songs like Chan Mali Chan and Singapura, Sunny Island.

While my favourite part of the show was the impressive water jet display at the end, what left the deepest impression in Angel was Oscar the Tiger Fish, whose good friends include a jellyfish, seahorse and puffer fish. You might not believe it but the Songs of the Sea DVD has become one of our favourites to watch at home nowadays because the girls never get tired of singing along to the songs or watching the multimedia effects.

All good things come to an end and I guess Songs of the Sea, having captivated 8.5 million guests over the years, will be fondly remembered by many. Including me.
