Let us IMAGINE {Project Jewel at Changi Airport}

It has been over one and a half years since I started the Creativity 521 series and faithfully blogged about our art creations and crafting sessions. I'm elated to say that with a fair bit of determination and imagination, we have one way or another reached our 41st post and shared some simple but hopefully inspiring ideas with our readers.

This month, in addition to the regular posts, we have decided to take up another creativity challenge in a bid to build up Angel's sense of national pride and stand an opportunity for her artwork to be showcased at one of Singapore's most iconic symbols - Changi Airport.

Yes, it is time for us to IMAGINE!

A world-class attraction of glass and steel - Project Jewel at Changi Airport (Image credit)

What is Project Jewel?
At approximately 1.4 million square feet in size, Project Jewel will be a signature lifestyle destination in Singapore when it opens at Changi Airport in 2018, offering a range of facilities for airport operations, indoor gardens, leisure attractions, retail offerings and hotel facilities. Designed by world renowned architect Moshe Safdie, Project Jewel will feature a distinctive dome-shaped façade made of glass and steel, making this an iconic landmark in Changi Airport's landscape. It is envisaged to be a world-class global attraction that will capture the hearts of both tourists and Singaporeans and enhance Changi Airport's appeal as one of the world's leading air hubs.

What is IMAGINE?
IMAGINE is a community engagement initiative to provide the public with the opportunity to share their vision for Project Jewel in the form of any two-dimensional medium (photographs, drawings and sketches). Shortlisted submissions may be curated into larger-than-life creative interpretations and reproduced as art on Project Jewel's 800-metres of hoarding during its construction. The submissions may also be subsequently developed into art exhibits for display in Changi Airport or produced into memorabilia as souvenirs for overseas visitors.

Who can participate in IMAGINE?
IMAGINE is open to all residents of Singapore, aged 5 years and above. There are two competition categories – Junior (5 - 12 years old) and Open (13 years and above).

Is there any prize money involved?
There will be 10 winners for the Open category (13 years and above) and each of them will win S$1,000 in Changi Vouchers. For the Junior category (5 - 12 years old), there will be five winners and each will win S$500 in Changi Vouchers.

Now that I've got you sitting up and reading more closely, you might be thinking "My child can neither draw nor paint, what can we submit?", "Changi Airport? I can't sketch anything related to it!" or "This sounds hard, I have NO idea what we can make". Wait, just take a deep breath and let me tell you the good news.

There is NO hard and fast rule on what you can submit.

It can be a painting of your favourite flower; it can be a sketch of a make-believe monster; it can be a collage of all things pink; it can be a photograph taken on your last vacation. As long as it is two-dimensional, anything goes. Still having a blank mind? Go here to view the gallery and be inspired by the imagination of others.

Here are some ideas we have explored, including collages, photos, crafts and digital scrapbook pages.

However, after giving it more thought, I decided it would be awesome if Angel could come up with her own original artwork so as to practice her skills and be one of the youngest participants in the Junior category. Of course, I guess I have to guide her along and I'm pretty psyched up to be her art teacher! So, it is going to be an exciting time for us as we work on our final submission, do stay tuned to see how it turns out!

For those of you who are interested to submit, do take note of the below criterion.

Rules of Contest:
- All creative entries must be new and original works, not published previously in any form.
- File must be in JPEG format and less than 5MB.
- Entry description should be approximately 250 words.
- All entries must be submitted by 31 March 2014, 2359hrs.
- Judging criteria: 50% originality, 25% imagination and 25% for entry description. Judges' decision is final.
- Mobile submissions will not be accepted.

From now to 31 March 2014, you can submit your vision for Project Jewel via www.changiairport.com/projectjewel.

Now, won't you join us in our vision and IMAGINE a world of endless possibilities?

Disclosure: This is a series of sponsored conversations between Project Jewel and A Happy Mum. All opinions are my own.
