I've always loved animals. I like to cuddle the small, furry ones; stroke the tame, bigger ones; or simply admire the majestic and fearsome ones.
Coincidentally, so does jw. Yeah, the opposites attract theory doesn't apply here.
After all, probably not that many couples visit the zoo or Night Safari as often as we did during courtship days. Well, we even held our wedding photo shoot in the zoo, took loving pictures with camels and flamingos in the background, and rode on a horse carriage all clad in our wedding suit and gown.
So, it's not a surprise that we decided to get a pet for Angel.
We wanted to start small since the most we've had were rabbits and we understand the level of commitment and responsibility that comes with a pet.
Then again, it ain't really that small because there's not just 1 or 2 more new lives in our house now, but 26 of them! =)
Ta-dah! Meet our new fishy friends! We have 10 tetras, 8 guppies, 1 catfish lookalike, 3 sucker fish and 4 shrimps!
Thanks to them, now Angel and I have newfound pastimes.
We love:
1) Feeding the fish
2) Watching the fish
3) Talking to the fish
4) Playing hide and seek with the fish (Fine, we always seek but hey, it's fun cos' those sucker fish and shrimps can really hide well!)
It's the first time I started my aqaurium and thanks to the hubby who's pretty much an expert, I learnt many dos and don'ts and for Angel to help us in setting up everything, from washing to cleaning to decorating, I guess she feels very much involved and cherishes each of her new friends.
It's kinda awesome to actually let her be responsible for something. She would wake up in the morning, remember that the fish are hungry, rush to feed them, talk to them in the afternoon, and come night time, she would switch off their light and say "Good night" to them.
So, despite that these fish cost ten times as much (a big pack of tetra costs S$2 in Singapore but here, it costs S$2 for each of them), we are hoping it will be worth it to see our girl's smiles and to let her know that she's a big girl now who can care for others.
To more fishy stories soon!
I blog on Tuesday @ Diary of a SAHM.
What a lovely fish tank and I love how your little one is learning so much because you have involved her so much in the process of setting up and looking after the fish!
ReplyDeleteGee thanks! Yeah she wants to be a part of everything nowadays! =) I love the tank too!
DeleteThat's a beautiful aquarium! Will you be bringing the fishes back at the end of the year? :)
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
Haha that was the first thing we thought of too. =) We do plan to have a fish tank in our house in sg (we had designed a divider with a space allocated in the middle for the tank). Hubby says we'll see how many survive by end of the year. If we can bring them back, we will. If not, we'll just have to give them back to the pet shop and pray they end up in good hands.
DeleteWhat a nice way to start your little princess to take care and be responsible! You have many great ideas to learn from! Great mummy!
ReplyDeleteThanks much, you flatter me as always. Great to know you love reading what I write!
DeleteWe got my son a Siamese fight fish for Christmas, and he loves it.. He can t clean the tank yet, but he loves to feed and talk to him.
ReplyDeleteFish are a great pet to start with!
Hey Jess, wow a fighting fish, I'm sure he adores it! =) Yeah my girl can't do any proper cleaning as well but she tries (and makes a mess out of it every time). Oh well, she wants to get her hands on everything we do for the fish. =) Yesh I agree, great pet to start with!
DeleteThat's a gorgeous fish tank! I adore looking at fish swimming in pretty tanks but the smell of the fishy water when it comes time to cleaning the tank badly turns my stomach, so we had to give up having fishies in our house very quickly. Though considering we have two cats these days they probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway!
ReplyDeleteHi Bee, thanks for stopping by! Wow with two cats and two kids, I guess it was a wise choice to get rid of the tank. My tank is very small and now I only have one girl to look after, so I'm going to bear with the cleaning for awhile. =p And there's always the hubby who does a much better job at changing the water. Lol.
DeleteOh gorgeous.. fish... what a greta fish tank.. hope they bring lots of happiness!! Such a great first pet!!
ReplyDeleteHello! Thanks for stopping by! Hope you will find more inspiration to keep your blog going (read your post) and let's be in touch! =)
DeleteThe tank looks great! And I think it's great too that Angel has a hand in setting up the tank and feeling it as her responsibility. We have a tank at home too but we fear tons when my girl tries to feed them cos she dropped the feeding bottle into the tank once! *nightmare* :P
ReplyDeleteHahaha. Yahn wanted to share her milk with them! I hope she didn't try to eat the fish food though. =p Anyway yeah I guess it's a good activity for Angel. Her only problem is she overfeeds and gives them more than they need. =)
DeleteWhat beautiful wedding photos! Have fun with the fish... Angel looks very happy with them!
ReplyDeleteThanks much for popping by! Yes I do hope she's happy! =)
DeleteMaybe can try to let angel keep a wugui when you guys go back to Singapore? Easy to maintain too :)
ReplyDelete-Cindy
Hee I had wuguis before also. One climbed into the toilet bowl and refused to come out. Lol. Will keep that in mind too! =) Thanks!
DeleteWooo we used to own fishes too! Till we got sick of seeing their dead bodies floating at the top of the water and cleaning the tank.. great times =)
