Star light, Star bright

No Christmas tree is ever complete without a star or an angel at the top.

Since I already have a lovely Angel at home, I decided we should go for the star instead. Ok, I'm just taking the easy option as you can see.

Anyway, though my tree is not up yet, I have, in a moment of enthusiasm, made this simple three-dimensional star for it already.

This is really easy to make and the best part is you can have a different design for each of the five points. Of course, you can also keep to one if you prefer monotone.

There are probably many ways to make this star, but if you are interested, here's how I did mine.

What you need:

1) Scrapbook paper (I find them colourful and thick enough, you can also use stamps or drawings to make your own design on plain construction paper)
2) Scissors
3) Long ruler
4) Glue
5) Template for the star (I got mine from a craft shop but you can download similar ones here)

Using the template, trace the outline and cut out on the paper.

With the template placed on the paper, make clean, crisp folds along the lines. You can accomplish this easily if you have a paper scorer.

Tip: I don't have a scoring tool, so I do this with the help of a long ruler. Simply place the ruler along the dotted lines, fold in, then slide the ruler across the folds, pressing down firmly.

Fold the long flap inwards, apply glue and stick it to the other end. You will have a nice, cone shape which will be one point of the star.

Repeat for all the other ends till you have five points.

Now, it's time to put your star together! Taking one point, fold the two short flaps outwards, apply glue and stick it neatly onto the inside of the next point. Press down firmly and allow to dry before you continue. Repeat for all the points.

The last point is the most challenging before you have to attach it to the previous point and the first point. Instead of working on all four flaps at once, work on one side before moving to the other.

Tip: If you do not like to work with glue, you can also use double-sided tape instead.

You might end up having a tiny little hole in the middle and if you are a perfectionist like me, you can use a small embellishment to cover it.

Ta-dah! Our three-dimensional star is done! Easy, isn't it? Have fun making them!

Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight,
I wish I may,
I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.
