Seeing how my girl loves to read and how her library is expanding by the month, I know that while I can say 'No' to more shoes, more clothes and more bags, I will never say 'No' to more books in the house. Books don't only quench our thirst for knowledge and let us learn about the world, they are also a great way for the family, and siblings, to bond.
Recently, we were introduced to NoQ store, a subsidiary of Times Publishing Limited that promises an awesome shopping experience for all book lovers. More than 14 million titles? Check. No hassle of having to queue up? Check. A website that is easy to navigate? Check.
Best of all, they have the lowest price guaranteed in Singapore. If you have made a purchase and find the same titled book priced lower in any book store, just submit your claims and they will refund you the price difference. Quite a fair deal, I would say.
NoQ store's website is neatly laid out and straightforward, therefore you can easily browse through the categories which are listed on the left. Alternatively, you can click on 'Shop by Categories' and have all of them displayed at one glance so that you can pick out the one that speaks to you most.
Here are some of the functions that I like best on the site:
1) Search bar
Offers the quickest way to search for a book by typing its title, author or publisher.
2) Sub-categories
Under each main category, it is further broken down into these sub-categories to help narrow down your search. Isn't it great that you can easily search for books meant for babies followed by books meant for a preschooler?
3) Sorting function
This allows you to sort the titles by popularity, date and - my most often used - price.
4) Best sellers list
If others are buying it, there's something good about the book. I love to take a look at what's hot and then decide if it is what we like and need.
In addition, there is also a Bargain Corner where you can find books at up to 50% off the listed price. It sounds crazy but at the time of search, I found books that were going for as low as S$1.00. Other than books, you can also find textbooks, assessment books, magazines and other educational materials here. For orders above S$25, you will also get to enjoy free shipping.
I have to admit, I love the fact that I can shop for books during the wee hours while happily sipping on my glass of hot chocolate. Check out our loot from NoQ store, everyone in the family gets a little something!
The only downside I had was that instead of the slated 7-14 days for delivery, ours took 3 weeks to arrive. But considering that the people at NoQ strive to bring us the lowest rates from overseas suppliers and provide value for money, I guess it's true that good things are worth waiting for.

We have an encyclopedia-ish book of insects, and my 6YO has been asking for one on fish and birds, so I'll need to look for one along those lines!
